Royal Family fans have noticed striking similarities between six-year-old Princess Charlotte and the Queen when she was a child.

A new photo of Charlotte, taken by her mum, the Duchess of Cambridge, was released today to mark her sixth birthday. The young princess, who is fourth in line to the throne, can be seen smiling at the camera with her long hair loose over her shoulders.

Many social media users noted that the picture bore a resemblance to images of Charlotte’s great-grandmother, the Queen, at a similar age.

One person commented: ‘I see so much of William, The Queen and Diana in her!’, while another noted: ‘Princess Charlotte is a spitting image of the Queen isn’t she!’

A third added: ‘I’ve always said I see so much of Her Majesty, The Queen, in little Princess Charlotte. She’s got the Queen’s eyes!’

The new photo of Charlotte was taken this weekend in Norfolk, Kensington Palace said. The family have been spending time at their country estate, Anmer Hall.

It comes after the release of a video of Charlotte with her brothers Prince George, seven, and Prince Louis, three, and their parents to mark the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s 10th wedding anniversary on Thursday.

The footage showed the family enjoying time outdoors at Anmer Hall and on sand dunes at a nearby beach.

Charlotte, whose full title is Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge, was born at the private maternity Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, in London, at 8.34am on May 2 2015, weighing 8lb 3oz.

Her mum Kate is a keen amateur photographer and patron of the Royal Photographic Society, and several of her pictures have been released to mark her children’s birthdays.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge did not share the new picture of Charlotte on their social media, as they are participating in a social media boycott designed to help tackle racism and sexism in football.

The four-day protest began on Friday. William said: ‘As President of the FA I join the entire football community in the social media boycott this weekend.’
