A mother faces being sentenced to 40 years hard labor after she allegedly let her eight year-old son light a bonfire unattended and then ignored his burns. Samantha Doucet, 27, is said to have let the little boy ignite the pyre unattended outside their home in Dusan, Louisiana, on April 1.

The youngster ended up getting badly burned while doing so, but Doucet is then said to have ignored agonizing burns to his face, hands and legs for four days. A relative finally intervened and took the boy to hospital, where he was diagnosed with second and third-degree burns, and given treatment for them.

Duson Police arrested Doucet and charged her with second degree cruelty to juveniles, a felony that could result in a lengthy hard labor sentence if she is found guilty.

They also shared distressing photos of the injuries to the child’s hand, arm and leg too distressing to publish unpixellated. His skin is red from the injuries, with the skin appearing to have suffered a severe infection in at least one place.
