Dramatic pictures show a lorry teetering on the edge of a bridge after smashing through a safety barrier on the M25.

An emergency operation was launched after the HGV crashed into the side of the M25 at Junction 2, where the motorway passes over the A2 near Dartford in Kent on Wednesday.

No serious injuries were reported, but the incident closed the A2 in both directions at the junction for the Darenth Interchange.

The anticlockwise M25 is also closed at junction 2, Kent Police said.

A spokesperson for Highways England said a complex recovery and repair operation was underway and the roads will remain closed ‘for some time’.
