Nightclubs could reopen as early as June under the new roadmap out of lockdown announced today.

The government has said it aims to scrap all legal limits on social contact on June 21 ‘at the earliest’.

This means venues with indoor spaces that could not operate normally with social distancing rules will be able to welcome revellers again.

Some nightclubs were able to repurpose their venues for controlled gatherings during the periods of lighter restrictions last year, but the majority have had to stay closed and many have gone out of business.

The four-step plan to ease lockdown will see stages of easing separated by five-week pauses to assess the impact on infections.

Shops, hairdressers, gyms and outdoor venues such as pub beer gardens will be able to open on April 12 if conditions are met.

This is a breaking news story, more to follow shortly…

Boris Johnson’s roadmap out of lockdown

Boris Johnson has laid out his plans to lift Covid-19 restrictions in England, following weeks of lockdown which began on January 4.

The Prime Minister confirmed that the route back to normality will depend upon four tests for easing restrictions and will take into account the success of the vaccine rollout.
